Ian Read aka I. Read is a burgeoning producer/remixer/DJ currently thriving in LA’s electronic music scene. Ian’s experience with production is the kind that comes from a lifetime fascination with the art. Spanning genres and defying expectations, the I. Read catalog reflects the talents of a producer comfortable and credible with shaping memorable sonic experiences.
For example, with production on remixes for She Wants Revenge and Juliette & the Licks recently completed, it’s easy to detect a rock theme. However, as a counterpoint, Ian’s additional production on Three’s mix of “Speachless” for Crosstown Rebels brings some lovely vocodery goodness and unquestionably abstract synthesizer cereal to the mix. Then there is the Bystanders’ remix of the Virgin Tears’ “Loadhailer” that slams through the dance floor like an semi in name-your-Hollywood blockbuster. But it’s the very same Bystanders’ - a collaboration with Sean Patrick and Terryn Westbrook - that offers up some terrifically sweet technopop in the form of “Small Talk”. Finally there is the I. Read abstract house project Altiply, ongoing relationships with Skor Records, Adjunct Records & Hallucination Limited, a diverse assortment of party oriented bootlegs and a wildly experimental release with Kenneth J. Gibson called Electronic Music Composer on Planet-Mu just to name a few projects among a deeper body of work that may be used to paint a more detailed portrait. . . Suffice to say, I. Read’s genre surfing and prolific release schedule shows no signs of letting up.
Currently immersed in programming for Chris Holmes’ Ashtar project, collaborating with Jean-Paul Jumonville on the anticipated Mr. Leisure EP, completing the first I. Read hip-hop and downtempo beats CD “21 Sugar Platters”, acquiring more remixes, flipping bootlegs, crowd-pleasing weekly DJ gigs at both Standard Hotel locations in LA and a host of more secretive work, I. Read continues his pursuit of happiness via unconditional love for programming, production and DJing.
